Nine teams will gun for the crown when the 5th St. John’s Institute Alumni Basketball Friendship Cup opens this Saturday at the Msgr. John B. Liu Activities Center.

Games will start after the parade and opening ceremony at 3 p.m. with Eleven Degrees 96-98 going up against Ceres Pasalubong 2006-07 in the curtain-raiser.

The other contending teams are Jollibee/Terra Dolce 1990-92, Waterfull/Celcor 93-94-95, Phoenix 99-2k, Petron 2001-02-12, Grand Royal Spa 2003-04-05, New Energy Marketing 2008-10-11 and Legends (89 and earlier) with Batch 2009.

Two games will be played every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 6:30 p.m., with the tournament expected to run until the last week of September.
