Tay Tung explains policy
on entering campus

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The principal of the Bacolod Tay Tung High School in Bacolod City yesterday said they conducted marathon meetings before implementing the Department of Education Order No. 11, Series of 2011issued on February 2011.

Nilda Monge said BTTH may be the last school to implement the DepEd Order which authorizes it to disallow visitors, parents or guardians from entering its campus during school hours.

This was her reaction to a complaint sent by Richard Troy Colmenares to the Commission on Human Rights Regional Office questioning the constitutionality of the DepEd Order.

Colmenares complained about the school’s policy preventing parents from entering the school premises during lunch break.

Monge said other schools had already been implementing the DepEd Order since last year, while they implemented it on trial basis only recently.

As the principal, she only manages the school but there is a Board of Trustees who gave her the go-signal to implement the Order, she added.

Monge said they also conducted a series of meetings with the parents since they cannot implement the Order without getting their feedback.

She said she had asked Colmenares to address his complaint to her but he never approached her. She also said she is also willing to return his P40 lunch pass if he asks for a refund.

It is not true that parents or guardians are not allowed to enter the school campus because they are provided a waiting area inside, Monge said.

Students who eat lunch outside the school premises are issued a lunch pass so the school will know if they have returned. The lunch pass, which costs P40 for the whole year, has the student’s number at the back so they could notify the parents of their whereabouts, she added.

She also said they have installed 32 Closed-Circuit Television cameras inside the school campus to ensure the safety of their students.*CGS
