PPI director speaker at
NPC rites tonight

The induction of the 2012-2013 officers of the Negros Press Club, the oldest press club in the Philippines, will be held at Bascon Hotel in Bacolod City at 7 tonight.

Ariel Sebellino, Philippine Press Institute executive director and project director for Training Operations and Special Projects, and coordinator of the Council of Asian Press Institutes, will be the keynote speaker, a press release said.

Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) will be the inducting officer and one of the speakers.

The theme of the 76th induction ceremony of the press club established in 1936 in the Philippines is "Converging the Mainstream and Social Media for Sustained Growth and Progress".

To be inducted are Arman Toga of the Negros Daily Bulletin and the Philippines News Agency as president; Edgar Lucasan of DYRL Abyan Radyo - vice president, Clarence Locsin of Bombo Radyo DYWB - secretary; Aquilino “Boy” Ciocon of DYAF Radyo Veritas - treasurer; and Chrysee Samillano of the Visayan DAILY STAR - auditor.

Directors are Adriano Nemes of the Visayan DAILY STAR, Butch Bacaoco of SunStar-Bacolod, Henry Cestina of RPN DYKB, Merlinda Pedrosa of SunStar-Bacolod, Ranie Azue of Panay News, and Elmer Ubaldo of Watchmen Daily (ex-oficio).

Other speakers will be Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, who is a former NPC president, and Bacolod Rep. Anthony Golez.

Nine new NPC members will be sworn in during the formal ceremony.

One of the scheduled keynote speakers, Ramon Isberto, Smart Communications Public Affairs Group head and PLDT-Smart spokesperson, sent word to Toga Wednesday night that he could not come due to an illness. Isberto's mother passed away a few days ago.*
