‘Lives of 3 in Arles slay
still at-large in danger’
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Three other members of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade, especially the person who provided the men who assassinated Judge Henry Arles, yesterday were urged to surrender and seek protective custody immediately, because their lives are in danger.

They should surrender as their alternative is death, hits have been placed on them by the person who hired them to protect his identity, Arles’ brother-in-law, lawyer Frank Britanico, said.

Britanico, who has been working closely with the National Bureau of Investigation in its probe into the killing of the judge, said they were able to warn through text messages the person who provided the men for the liquidation of the judge, of three hit operations launched against him.

These warnings enabled the person to get out of the area where he was to avoid being killed, but they have received new information that a fourth hit has been placed on the man, Britanico added.

We are encouraging this person to seek help through media outlets, trusted persons, or by going directly to the NBI, Britanico said.

We assure him that he will be protected and will not be harmed, he added.

It appears that the mastermind wants to eliminate those who can link him to the crime, so a false mastermind can be framed to take the fall, Britanico said.

Britanico said one of three RPA-ABB members linked to the Arles murder already arrested by the NBI, immediately asked for protective custody because he knew that an order had also been issued for his elimination.

NBI Bacolod head Ferdinand Lavin had earlier confirmed that they had arrested RPA-ABB members Jessie Daguia, Alejandro Capunong and Eddie Fortunado on June 23 and 27 for illegal possession of firearms, and brought them to Manila for safekeeping.

Its spokesman Victorino Sumulong said Wednesday that the RBA-ABB will not condone the possible involvement of any of its members in the assassination of Arles, but the NBI should grant them due process.

Undersecretary Luisito Montalbo of the Office of the Presidential Adviser of Peace Process yesterday said criminal activities committed will be treated separately from the government peace process with the RPA-ABB that is nearing closure.

We will not allow the peace process to cover up for any criminal activity, he said, noting that the RPA-ABB leadership has also stressed that such activities will not be condoned.

Those arrested will be granted due process accorded every Filipino, he said.

Montalbo said they are monitoring the situation in the Arles case.

Persons arrested with firearms have to show that they have permits to carry them, Montalbo added.

Arles was driving home when he was assassinated in Ilog town, Negros Occidental, on April 24.*CPG
