Bacolod City Police Director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, yesterday ordered an intensified police visibility operation especially in the area of Police Station 2 after the robbers riding in tandem in a motorcycle struck again, this time victimizing the son of a city councilor.
Bacolod Councilor Homer Bais yesterday said his son, whose name he did not disclose had come from the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, where he works as a nurse and was on his way to buy food at about 4 a.m. Friday last week when two men on a motorcycle blocked his way near the Social Security System compound.
Bais said one of the two men, alighted from the motorcycle, pointed a knife on his son’s neck and declared a hold-up. When his son gave his cellular phone to the suspect, he refused to accept it and demanded for money, instead.
Bais added that his son gave his money of about P8,000 to the suspect, who left immediately with his companion on their motorcycle.
The councilor said the police should act on this not just because his son was the latest victim, but because these criminals have already victimized a lot of people in Bacolod.
De la Paz assured Bais that BCPO is on top of the situation, and that they are now mapping out measures to curb the operation of the robbers riding in tandem on motorcycles.
He advised those who are working on graveyard shifts not to walk alone especially in areas that are not well-lighted.
De la Paz added that the operations of snatchers and robbers riding in tandem on motorcycles have resume after lying low for sometime, as it is now August, which is considered the lean month.*APN back
