Guv gives lot to NOTF,
distributes health cards

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday signed the Deed of Donation of the 1,176 sq. m. lot near the proposed Negros Occidental Cyber Center in Bacolod City, to the Negros Occidental Teachers Federation, Inc. (NOTF), during their 66th Annual Representative Assembly held at the Bacolod Pavillon Grand Hall in Bacolod City, yesterday.

NOTF was represented by its president, Evelyn Arnaiz and general manager, Dr. Ruben Camarista, who also signed in the Deed of Donation as witnessed by NOTF officers and Board of Trustees, a Capitol press release said.

The current market value of the prime lot is P14,000 per square meter and Marañon is also giving P1 million to fund the NOTF operations.

Marañon said he has always believed, that education is the greatest social equalizer and that students from poor families have the capacity to improve their lives provided they are given the right education.

He also urged them to develop English proficiency in every student so they can cope up with globalization.

Marañon, on Wednesday also distributed more than a thousand NOCHP cards in Escalante City and led in the groundbreaking ceremony for the waiting shed and canopy project for the Vicente Gustilo District Hospital.

About 1,200 Negros Occ. Comprehensive Health Program cards were distributed to beneficiaries in 21 barangays of the city and more indigents were also enrolled in the program after the distribution.

The waiting shed and canopy project is a joint endeavor of the provincial government and Barangay Balintawak led by Brgy. Capt. Aladino Lumayno Jr. It has an estimated cost of P600,000.*
