Sabor Bisaya winner: LCC

La Consolacion College-Bacolod was named overall champion in the 2nd Sabor Bisaya Culinary Competition and Food Expo over eight other schools in Bacolod City at the Bacolod Pavilion Hotel in Saturday.

LCC gained 1,090.3 points from different culinary categories and bested other participants from the University of Saint La Salle-Bacolod, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, West Negros University, Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod, VMA Global College, John B. Lacson, ABE-Bacolod, and Carlos Hilado Memorial State College-Talisay, Edson Azuelo, competition director, said yesterday.

The participants were judged based on a point system where 91-99 points is gold, 81-90 points is silver, and 71-80 is bronze.

The winners of the Organic Cuisine Challenge were Panes Igall of CSA-B and Fygunn Alit Cameron of Chef’s Pizzeria both silver while winners of the Visayan Cuisine Challenge were Michelle Olrada of ABE, Karla Ape of LCC, and Rhena Amar of LCC received bronze and Victor Michael Javellana of USLS silver.

Seafood Challenge winners were Roy Lopez of Pala-pala and Mherly Fernandez of LCC for gold, Karen Baculna and Christine Marie Yulo both of LLC for silver, and Lleovel Cloyd Escora of WNU and John Mark Banguanga of USLS for bronze.

Winners for the Creative Fried Rice Challenge were Nikko Fernandez of LCC for silver and John Paul Bonda of CSA-B for bronze while LCC students topped the gold and silver places for the on the stop Cake Decorating Competition represented by Joelyn Gariando, Ivy Faulva, Lebyrinth Ann Tayab, Jason de Oca, Marial Isabel Baseñes, and Peal Joy Dequeña.

Bronze winners were from USLS represented by John Mark Hermano, Nicole Yusay, and Johah Khriss Gonzaga.

LCC students also bagged the gold and silver medals for the Na’nam, A Feast of Negrense Flavor with Tiffany May Cunahap, Kennt Diamante, Ana Carmela Sotomil, and Valerie Joyce Castillo while WNU represented by Arnel Pamposa and Yves delos Reyes, got the bronze.

Winners of Bartending Competition were Jonathan Villarma of VMA for gold, Justine Jaranilla of UNO-R and Lawrence Conlu of LCC for silver, and John Sergio of VMA, Timmy Andre of JBL, Yoshiko Ogajima of UNO-R, and Jethro Mark Alunan of LCC for bronze while Chef’s War winners were team USLS for silver (Sevellogo, Yanson, and Launio) and team LCC for bronze (Reynaldo, Alasigon, and Tabino).

Sabor Bisaya was conceptualized by Juan Miguel Gaston, the general manager of Gruppo Uma Food Corporation in partnership with the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Negros Occidental.

The competition will also help them practice their skills and learn new techniques and technologies in culinary arts, Maricar Dabao of Jovial Media events said.

Dabao said this is also a means for Bacolod City and Negros Occidental to showcase its restaurants, hotels, and the skills and techniques of local chefs. *LTG
