NNNP, Taal ink twinning
MOA on environment
The Northern Negros Natural Park and the Taal Volcano Protected Landscape, both national protected areas, have been bonded through a twinning agreement recently, a government press release said.
This was after Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. led the NNNP delegation to Batangas City, to attend the general assembly of the TVPL and the signing of the memorandum of agreement on the twinning at Balay Isabel in Talisay City, Batangas, the press release added.
The MOA aims to enhance the sharing of knowledge on best practices, cooperation and partnership, and mentoring between the two parties.
Twinning activities for protected areas are designed to pursue the sustainable management of natural resources found in the ecologically-sensitive areas and how each can help the other, the press release said.
Aleta Nuñez, Negros Occidental Provincial Environment Management officer, said the trip was also a learning visit, since an issue of interest to NNNP in TVPL is how the Protected Area Management Board of Batangas was able to conduct law enforcement, particularly the dismantling of more than 7,000 fish pens in Taal Lake.
The activity was under the two-year Effective Natural Resources Governance project being funded by the European Union, and implemented by Negros Occidental through the PEMO, the press release also said.
Signatories for the MOA were Nuñez, Julian Amador, regional executive director of DENR 6; Reynulfo Juan, RED of DENR Region 4A; Arnulfo Hernandez, regional technical director of DENR 4A; and Laudemir Salac, Batangas CENRO, the press release added.*
