15 commercial sex workers
arrested at Bacolod plaza

Fifteen commercial sex workers, aged 18 to 20 years old, were apprehended by Station 1 policemen at the Bacolod City public plaza, at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Chief Insp. Adonis Rosales, Station 1 commander, said the women, whose names he withheld, are all from Bacolod and were released yesterday as they can no longer be charged for vagrancy.

He said they advised the women to undergo examination at the City Health Office to determine if they have sexually-transmitted diseases.

He added that aside from the fact that some of the CSWs indeed have STDs, others are subjects of the complaint from their customers for allegedly stealing their personal belongings.

Rosales said they are intensifying the campaign, not only against CSWs, but also pimps and callboys, on orders of Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, director of the Bacolod City Police Office.

Last month, De la Paz organized “Task Force Magdalena” to put an end to the rampant exploitation of women and minors, saying that this has to begin with the pimps and callboys, who make prostitution their business.

The police have been arresting pimps and callboys, but no case have been filed against them yet. The decision to charge pimps and callboys in court was made because they have become habitual law violators, De la Paz said.*APN
