The Bacolod City Police led in the anti-illegal drugs campaign in Western Visayas in the first five months of the year, while the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office is second, records furnished by the Police Regional office-6 showed yesterday.

Of the 159 drug pushers and users apprehended and charged in Region 6, 58 came from Bacolod City and 29 from other towns and cities of Negros Occidental, the records also showed.

The Guimaras police provincial office, meanwhile, recorded only one drug suspect arrested.

BCPO and NOPPO also had the most number of buy-bust operations conducted in the Western Visayas which has 28, and 21 operations, respectively. NOPPO also topped with the most number of illegal drugs cash proceeds recovered which was P724 ,642 while BCPO had P186, 822, police records showed.

Bacolod City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz said he is happy with the results of the city’s anti-illegal drugs campaign because their sustained drive, through the Anti-Illgal drugs Special Operations Task Group, has paid off.

De la Paz said the reduction in the entrance of illegal drugs and the neutralization of all drug pushers are his top priorities before he leaves Bacolod for a higher position.

He said they continue case build-up against alleged big-time drug pushers in Bacolod City to find strong evidences against them and file charges in court.

De la Paz added that illegal drugs operation in Bacolod have been greatly affected because of their intensified illegal drug campaign although he admitted that the demand for illegal drugs will increase as the new school year opens.*APN
