Negros Rapid Chess
set to open June 9

Chess enthusiasts in Bacolod City will pit their skills against each other when the Negros Chess Rapid Championship 2012 kicks off on June 9 at the 3rd Floor Foodcourt of the Centroplex Mall in Bacolod City, a press release from the organizers said.

Sponsored by FCBI Hugo Villanueva, the competition is open to all chess players in the province and neighboring areas with the maximum of 60 participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The champion will receive P3,000 cash prize and a trophy, while the first runner-up will get P2,000; second runner-up, P1,000; and consolation prizes for the third and fourth runners-up.

Top female and kiddy participants will also received cash prizes and gold medals.

FIDE Rapid Law of Chess shall govern the tournament with each player required to bring his or her own chess set and chess clock if available, the press release said.
