Board Member Emilio “Dino” Yulo III yesterday congratulated his opponent and uncle, Alejandro Mirasol, on winning the race for congressman of the fifth district Saturday.
"I congratulate the winner, the people have spoken. I respect the decision of the people,” he said.
Although his camp was beaten logistically, Yulo said “At least we managed to give the people a free choice, that is the essence of democracy.”
Asked if he would run for congressman in 2013, Yulo said “We will see how things develop in the near future.”
Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. lauded Yulo for putting up a very good fight.
Yulo just did not have a strong party behind him, the governor said.
Yulo will still be a board member and have the opportunity to serve the people of the fifth district, the governor said.
Asked if Yulo could still return to the United Negros Alliance, Marañon said that would be up to Mirasol who is now the chairman of UNA in the fifth district.
Earlier on Saturday, Yulo had appeared optimistic of winning the polls, saying he was banking on the love of the people to be converted into votes.
Former Board Member Francis Tuvilla, who congratulated Mirasol on his win, said “Now that the people have spoken already, let us heal the wounds of division, work together, and deliver the promises made during the campaign.”*CPG
