Mayor denies
tuition bills unpaid

BY RENE GENOVE

Siaton town Mayor Albert Ator yesterday denied reports that he has not paid the tuition of his scholars for three semesters in a university in Dumaguete City.

He said he is spending at least P2 million of his personal money every year to put 179 scholars in various colleges and universities in Dumaguete.

But Ator admitted reducing the number of scholars to less than 200, after the Sangguniang Bayan allegedly refused to act on his request for a budget to continue the scholarships.

In the absence of government funds, Ator claimed to be personally shouldering the tuition of 152 scholars enrolled in the Negros Oriental State University-Siaton campus, six in Silliman University, 17 in Norsu-Dumaguete campus and four in Saint Paul University Dumaguete.*RG
