Negrense Lt. Col. Eliglen Villaflor, a member of the Philippine Army’s elite Special Forces unit, is now with the Filipino peacekeepers, who joined the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force in the disputed Golan Heights in the Middle East.
The UNDOF supervises the disengagement of Israeli and Syrian forces, areas of separation and limitation as provided in the May 1974 Agreement on Disengagement by the UN Security Council.
Villaflor is among the 638 personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines deployed in United Nations mission areas in Liberia, Haiti, Golan Heights, Timor Leste and Ivbory Coast, for various peacekeeping duties.
Villaflor used to serve as a commanding officer of the defunct 32nd Special Forces Company in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental. He was later assigned as training director of the Special Forces Regiment at Fort Magsaysay in Nueva Ecija.
Other than the Filipino contingents to Liberia, Golan Heights and Haiti, the AFP also sent observers to the UN Military Observer Group in India, Pakistan, Sudan, Timor Leste and Cote d’Ivoire, Ivory Coast.* GPB
