2 girls drown in
San Enrique

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Nine-year-old Analyn Alegado yesterday tried to save her younger sister from drowning but her effort was in vain as both she and 3-year-old Angel drowned in an irrigation canal in Purok Society, Brgy. Tabao Baybay, San Enrique, Negros Occidental.

Senior Inspector Hector Balbon, San Enrique police chief, said investigations by the San Enrique police showed that the two minors were playing, when Angel accidentally fell into the irrigation canal. Analyn jumped into the water and tried to save her, Balbon said.

Members of a rescue group and policemen of San Enrique who responded to the incident, recovered the body of Angel first and that of her sister, an hour later.

The two girls, whose parents are temporarily staying with their relatives in the place, were both declared dead on arrival at the Valladolid District Hospital, Balbon said.

It was a plain and simple accident, he stressed.

Meanwhile, in Sitio Telim, Brgy. Suba, Calatrava a cargo truck fell into a 100-meter ravine and caused the death of its driver identified as Expedito Biarcal, 54, Monday, police said.

In his report to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, Senior Inspector Ramel Sarona, Calatrava police chief, said Biarcal lost control of his vehicle when the steering wheel malfunctioned, and that led to the accident.

Sarona said the vehicle was totally damaged, and Biarcal died on the spot.

A day earlier, a certain Jose Aldoniza, 62, was stabbed dead, allegedly by Francisco Custodio, 54, in Brgy. Minapasok, Calatrava, an incident allegedly triggered by jealousy.

Sarona said Aldoniza, a widower, succumbed to two stab wounds in the chest.

Custodio, was immediately arrested by barangay tanod, Romy Gutib, who endorsed him to the Calatrava Police Station. * GPB
