The Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board Region 7, covering the Central Visayas provinces of Negros Oriental, Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor, will meet in Dumaguete City today to resume discussions on pending petitions for wage adjustment.
Ma. Gloria Tango, regional director of the Department of Labor and Employment 7 and chair of the RTWPB-7, yesterday said the talks will focus on determining the supervening conditions that will warrant another round of wage increase.
She said the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines is pushing for a P90 across-the-board adjustment; while the Alliance for Progressive Labor is seeking a P120 increase.
Representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry, the National Economic Development Authority, government, management and labor sectors and RTWP members are expected during the meeting set at 1 p.m.
Tango said the wage board is going around the region holding similar dialogs to determine if there is, indeed, a supervening condition, considering that the last round of salary adjustment was September 22, 2011.
Under the law, wage adjustments cannot be made less than a year after the last increase, unless there is a supervening condition.*JFP
