P6 million training center
for sugar workers planned

A livelihood training center will be established in the Dumaguete City High School compound in Barangay Calindagan for sugar workers in Negros Oriental.

The facility will start construction as soon as the Department of Labor and Employment central office releases the P6 million fund from its Social Amelioration Project.

DOLE Region 7 director Ma. Gloria Tango, Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, and Negros Oriental Vice Gov. Apolinario Arnaiz Jr. yesterday led the signing of the memorandum of agreement for the project.

RTWPB 7 resumes discussion
on salary hike in Dumaguete

The Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board Region 7, covering the Central Visayas provinces of Negros Oriental, Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor, will meet in Dumaguete City today to resume discussions on pending petitions for wage adjustment.

Ma. Gloria Tango, regional director of the Department of Labor and Employment 7 and chair of the RTWPB-7, yesterday said the talks will focus on determining the supervening conditions that will warrant another round of wage increase.

She said the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines is pushing for a P90 across-the-board adjustment; while the Alliance for Progressive Labor is seeking a P120 increase.

Security guard dies
in road accident

A security guard died on the spot yesterday when his motorcycle crashed into a tree in Maria town, Siquijor province.

Maria police identified the fatality as Eduardo Torres, 22, of Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, a stay-in security guard of the Coco Grove Beach Resort in San Juan, Siquijor.

Kim Alipin, 25, of Bais City, Negros Oriental, said he was with Torres, who was driving a Honda Wave black motorcycle, on their way home from the Salagdoong Beach in Maria, where they had drinks with another companion, identified as Jesel Maata, 19, of Tubod, San Juan.
