The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental passed a resolution yesterday urging all local government units and commercial establishments with a net income of at least P300,000, to install closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance cameras, for security reasons.
Board Member Renato Gustilo, chairperson of the SP committee on Public Safety, who authored the resolution, said he has observed that surveillance cameras reduce the risk of theft or robbery in business establishments such as department stores, banks, boutiques, computer stores, hotels and restaurants, among other facilities.
“Government offices and facilities are not even totally safe from theft and other crimes against persons and properties,” Gustilo said.
He said there have been various instances when crimes were deterred, perpetrators captured and investigations aided by the use of CCTV surveillance cameras.* GPB
