Members of the Bacolod City Industry Tripartite Council for Business Process Outsourcing/Information and Communication Technology have recently adopted a Voluntary Code of Good Practices, making it the first industry ITC in Region 6 to do so and the 35th industry VCGP to be signed and adopted nationwide, Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz said, in a press release yesterday.
Baldoz said the Bacolod City BPO/ICT hammered out the Code after several meetings between employers and workers groups in the industry as well as with the government sector.
"The primary goals of having a voluntary code are to foster smooth management-labor relations and promote voluntary compliance with labor and occupational safety and health standards, thereby enhancing continuous growth, productivity, and competitiveness of the industry in response to global challenges," Baldoz said.
The code, DOLE Region 6 Director Ponciano Ligutom said, lays down the ITC members’ commitments to establish voluntary parameters and standards on the social and employment aspects in the BPO/ICT industry in the region.
Two salient features of the code pertains to training and education and maintenance of industrial peace and harmony, the press release said.
On the first, the code provides that the ITC will work towards building a collaborative partnership with the academe to enhance the skills and preparedness of faculty and students alike through faculty internship programs, career talks, technical forums, and curriculum review, it also said.*
