Once again, the crime clock in Negros Occidental and in Bacolod City stopped as Filipino ring icon and Saranggani Rep. Manny Pacquiao fought in the ring yesterday (Philippine time), this time against American boxer Timothy Bradley in Las Vegas, Nevada U.S.A.
Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office Director Senior Supt. Allan Guisihan said there were no untoward incidents reported during the fight of Pacquiao yesterday in the towns and cities of the province.
Guisihan said criminals may have taken a break and watched the fight too. He said that although they anticipated crimes to drop during Pacquiao’s match, they did not let their guard down.
Guisihan said he has instructed all the chiefs of police in the towns and cities to deploy their policemen in the viewing venues to ensure the public’s safety.
In Bacolod, City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz said there were also no recorded crimes during Pacquiao’s fight.
De la Paz said there were minimal vehicles at the city’s main thoroughfares. Policemen were also deployed in hotels and malls, where the fight was shown for free, he said.
Bureau of Fire Protection also send personnel to various live-viewing areas to ensure that there will be no overcrowding, Fire marshal, Fire Chief Insp. Pamela Candido said.
She said they also inspected the viewing centers to see if there are fire exits and their fire fighting apparatus are working.*APN
