Fire hits  building, 7 houses
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Fire hit a three-storey building at Hilado-Narra streets, Saturday, and seven houses in Brgy. 2, Bacolod City Friday, the Bureau of Fire Protection reported.

Deputy fire marshal, Insp. Publio Plotena, said they received a call from a concerned citizen at past noon Saturday informing them that the First Standard Finance Corp. building at Hilado-Narra streets was on fire.

Three fire trucks from the city’s fire bureau were dispatched to the area and were assisted by the Amity and Chinese Chamber fire volunteer brigades, Plotena said.

The fire at the financial corporation building, reached first alarm status, and was put out at about 12:50 p.m. with no one reported injured, although it destroyed P100,000 worth of properties, he said.

Investigation conducted by Fire Officer 3 Cornelio Silva and Fire Officer 1 John Stewart Mondido showed that the fire, of unknown cause, originated at an abandoned room on the 3rd floor of the building previously occupied by the retired manager of the firm.

On Friday, five houses were razed to the ground, and two were damaged when fire occurred in Purok Sigay in Brgy. 2 at about 8:40 p.m.

Based on the investigation conducted by Fire Officers 1 Jerson Ganava and Anthony Banay, the fire originated at the room occupied by Elmer Canlas at the second floor of the house of Salvacion Isio.

The fire spread and destroyed the nearby houses of Danilo Hiliwagan, Richard and Alex Gulucino and Roselyn Gupasin, and also damaged the residences of Carmen Cuadra and Ruben Enecencio.

City BFP fire fighters, and the volunteers of the Chinese Chamber and the Amity Fire volunteer Brigades put the fire out at about 8:10 p.m. Nobody was injured but about P70,000 worth of properties were turned into ashes.

Silva told the DAILY STAR that the cause of fire could be electrical as there were telephone cable wires believed being used for electrical connections.*APN
