Bacolod’s MassKara

In what maybe considered a big leap for the tourism promotion campaign of Bacolod City anchored on the MassKara Festival, two top executives of media networks in the US and the Philippines have assured Mayor Evelio Leonardia of their support and cooperation, a press release from City Hall said yesterday.

At a luncheon meeting hosted by Asian Journal Publisher & CEO Roger Oriel at the Hilton in Universal City, Leonardia was told by the media executives that they would just be too happy to feature the MassKara Festival, especially because, this year, there is more focus on Balikbayans and the US market.

The Asian Journal is considered the most widely circulated Filipino-American newpaper in the US with hundreds of thousands distributed to the large Filipino communities in the West and East coast.

Oriel is also the publisher of the Balikbayan magazine circulated in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Orange County, Northern California, New Jersey and New York. Both the Asian Journal & the Balikbayan magazine had previously featured Bacolod City and the MassKara Festival.

At the same occasion, International Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) vice president and director Lito Ocampo Cruz promised Leonardia of national media exposure in their network. Cruz said their company is embarking on an aggressive push for a bigger share of the television audience and has even included tourism-oriented programs among their major focus, the press release said.

Cruz added that the MassKara Festival will fit in perfectly with their major tourism thrusts after Leonardia informed him that the MassKara dancers recently topped the popular Abs-Cbn "Showtime" national competition and the festival representatives were a standout in the Philippine Independence Day parade in New York.

Leonardia thanked Oriel and Cruz for their help and all past favors they had extended to promote "the City of Smiles". *
