Clean up drive held

Major roadways of Bacolod City became cleaner after volunteers consisting of city officials and employees held another cleanup drive from 6 to 9 a.m. Saturday, a press release from City Hall said.

Acting Bacolod Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson led the corps of volunteers who swept roadsides, picked up litter, weeded out grasses and painted roadways white.

Sayson said he was impressed with the spirit of volunteerism that city officials and employees continue to show in response to the call of Mayor Bing Leonardia for a cleaner and greener Bacolod.

“I know that it is not easy for the city officials and employees to render volunteer service for the cleanup drive the sixth time, and yet a good number of them still continue to participate. To those who came I give my heartfelt thanks,” Sayson said.

The corps of volunteers cleaned the strips of Lacson Street from Robinson’s Place in the north to Hernaez Street in the south; Gatuslao Street from North Capitol Road to Rizal Street; from Araneta to Alunan and Gonzaga streets; Rizal to Lacson and San Juan streets; Hernaez to Lacson streets and down to the Bacolod public plaza.

These areas where subjected by the Task Force Clean and Green headed by overall chairperson Myrna Servando of the Lions Club and Vice chairpersons Councilors Em Ang, Sonya Verdeflor and Mona Dia Jardin for the clean- up to prepare them for the week long celebrations of the city for the Philippine Independence Day and the Bacolod City Charter Anniversary.

On June 12th, the Public Plaza will be the venue of the Philippine Independence Day Celebration. It will also play a great part in the celebration of the Bacolod City Charter Anniversary on June 18. *
