Hold-up groups
probed for  slay of 2

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The police is exerting more efforts to identify the three suspects in the killing of two civilians, and in taking P125,000 in payroll money in Manapla, and looking into the possible involvement of one of the three notorious hold-up groups in Negros Occidental.

Senior Inspector Edencio Gregorio, Manapla police chief, yesterday said members of the three group have pending records of murder, illegal possession of firearms, and are linked to robbery-hold-up activities.

Gregorio said he is pleading for help from any witnesses, who may have knowledge of the suspects involved in the heist and killing of Eddie Basa and Julie Biating in Hacienda Bariw, Brgy. Santa Teresa, Manapla.

Basa, husband of hacienda paymaster Teresa Basa, succumbed to gunshot wounds in the chest and head, after being shot by one of the three suspects, after he attempted to prevent the robbery-hold-up.

The suspects also took the 45 caliber pistol of her husband, Teresa told MBC Aksyon Radyo.

A suspect recently arrested for illegal possession of firearms, and linked to an incident of murder in Manapla, was freed from jail, after posting P80,000 bail, police records show.

Gregorio said the suspect, whose identity he withheld, is believed to be a member of the group linked to robbery-hold-up incidents in Manapla and neighboring areas.*GPB
