BCPO, NOPPO top Region 6
anti-illegal drugs operations

While the problem of illegal drug trade in Western Visayas remains unabated, the anti-illegal drug campaign goes on without let-up, with Bacolod City and the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Offices the top performers among police units in the region.

Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, regional police director of Western Visayas, has commended the BCPO, headed by Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, for topping the list of successful anti-drug operations, especially in the number of arrested drug peddlers, with NOPPO trailing behind them.

Of the 123 successful joint anti-illegal drug operations conducted by the PNP and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Units in the past six months of 2012, 32 were attributed to the BCPO, NOPPO – 27, Iloilo City Police Office – 26, Aklan Police Provincial Office – 12, Iloilo PPO – 11, Capiz PPO – 7, Antique PPO - Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group – 3 and Guimaras PPO – 1.

In the same period, BCPO also arrested 64 drug personalities; NOPPO, 31; Iloilo City Police Office, 30; Aklan PPO, 16; Capiz PPO,10; Antique PPO, and RAIDSOTG, four each; and one in Guimaras, police records show.

While the campaign to stop the proliferation of illegal drugs in the region remains a big challenge to the Police Regional Office 6, Querol said the problem can still be solved with the involvement of the community and strong support of local government units and other government agencies, especially the PDEA.

“I am very pleased to know that our operatives are working hard in implementing our mandate to support the PDEA in all anti-illegal drug operations to dwindle or even stop the illegal drug activities here in the region,” Querol said, as he singled out the BCPO for being a consistent top performer in the anti-drug campaign, since last year.*GPB
