The Department of Labor and Employment in Western Visayas is encouraging all employers to comply with and implement the new minimum daily wage rates while the implementing rules and regulations are still being reviewed, Labor Director Ponciano Ligutom, said yesterday.
The Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board approved Wage Order No. 20 provisions for the P12 increase in the minimum wage making it P277 for companies employing more than 10 workers, P235 for companies with 10 workers for the commercial sector and P245 for plantation and P235 for non-plantation for the agriculture sector.
Bacolod PESO: 2,897 get jobs
The Bacolod City Public Employment Service Office deployed 2, 897 workers last month, 2,730 of whom were placed locally and 167 abroad, Moises de la Cruz, PESO manager said, yesterday.
De la Cruz said the increase in job hiring of local companies shows that Bacolod City is drawing in more companies to invest, thus providing jobs for Bacoleños.
He said most of the in-demand jobs in Bacolod are call center agents, accountants, security guards, clerks, and engineers.
Surplus rice supply

The province of Iloilo and its neighboring island province Guimaras have rice surplus even if the lean months are beginning.
Data of the National Food Authority, show that Iloilo and Guimaras provinces now have a buffer stock that can last for 75 days.
The buffer stock is computed based on the daily consumption of the residents of the two provinces that is 21,080 bags per day.
