Two of the three suspects in the killing of two civilians, and taking P125,000 in payroll money in Brgy. Santa Teresa, Manapla, Negros Occidental, have been arrested by the police.
Senior Inspector Edencio Gregorio, Manapla police chief, yesterday said the two suspects, identified as Lloyd Besonia, 24, and Jim Boy Trabajador, 19, were positively identified by three witnesses, as the ones behind the fatal shooting of Eddie Basa and Julie Biating on June 9, and who also took payroll money at gunpoint from Ma. Teresa Basa, wife of Eddie.
Gregorio said Besonia was arrested Tuesday night in Hacienda Guinolayan, while Trabajador was apprehended yesterday in Hacienda Emma, all in Brgy. Tortosa, Manapla.
Basa succumbed to gunshot wounds in the chest and head, where he was shot by one of the three suspects, when he attempted to prevent the robbery-hold-up.
Biating, who was hit in the left leg, died at a hospital in Silay City, while undergoing treatment for his injury.
Gregorio said Maria Teresa identified Trabajar as the one who took the bag containing P125,000 in cash, that was intended for payment to hacienda workers, while Besonia was among those who participated in the shooting of her husband.
Police investigations showed that Besonia is the nephew of Nilo Besonia, who was recently freed from jail, after posting bail of P80,000 for illegal possession of firearms.
Nilo, alias Odok, a suspect in the killing of a certain Ka Ryan, a member of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade in Brgy. Tortosa, Manapla, was arrested with two other suspects linked to the murder and robbery-hold-up incident, on April in the place, police records show.
Gregorio said Besonia and Trabajar vehemently denied involvement in the payroll robbery and killings in Hacienda Bariw, Brgy. Santa Teresa, Manapla on June 9.
Robbery with homicide charges are now being readied against the two and their companion, whose identity is being withheld by the police, and is now being pursued by the Manapla police and troopers of the 6th Regional Public Safety Batallion.*GPB
