Rivera takes Yulo’s
committee on laws

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Negros Occidental Board Member Raul Rivera yesterday replaced Board Member Emilio Yulo III as the new chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan committee on Laws, Ordinances and Good Governance, replacing Yulo, who had asked to be relieved from the chairmanship.

The chairmanship of the special committee on Food and Security, chaired by Rivera, was given to Yulo.

Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr. was authorized by the SP to designate the chairmanship of the two committees, through a resolution approved by the provincial council, on motion of Board Member Thea Mae Dino.

Yulo gave up the chairmanship of the committee on Laws, after he lost to Binalbagan Mayor Alejandro Mirasol in the 5th district congressional race in the June 2 special elections.

“Delicadeza dictates that I ask to be relieved of such so that it may be reposed upon one who enjoys the utmost trust and confidence,” Yulo had said earlier.

Rivera, who represents the Philippine Councilors League-Negros Occidental chapter in the provincial council, also chairs the SP committee Senior Citizens and Veterans Affairs.

Meanwhile, Yulo retained the chairmanship of the SP committee on Natural Resources and Environment Protection.

Under the SP rules, he said each board member is required to chair at least two of the 30 committees.

Board Member Miller Serondo remains as vice-chairman of the SP committee on Laws.* GPB
