A river survey has been conducted by the Department of Public Works and Highways Region VI in the Mandalagan and Lupit Rivers of Bacolod City for a feasibility study on its flood control project that will determine problems of drainage and water systems of the city, Frank Carbon, president of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry yesterday said.

Flooding is the biggest problem of the city and it can wipe out all investments if not solved, Carbon said.

During heavy rains, clogged drainages result to overflowing rivers that causes flooding all over the city, he said.

Based on the Inception Report of the Schema Engineers and Associates that handled the study, it focused on the hydrographic and topographic survey of Mandalagan and Lupit Rivers, social survey of selected areas within Madalagan and Lupit rivers, traffic survey within selected traffic route, and the inventory of existing flood control facilities.

The DPWH VI allotted P6 million for the study that is expected to end next month, Carbon said.

The survey is a prelude study to the proposed Drainage Improvement Master Plan of Bacolod City. *LTG
