The Province of Aklan will host the 2013 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet and the official turnover of the WVRAA banner, from Negros Occidental to Aklan, is set later this month in Boracay Island.
Reports from the Provincial Sports Office said Executive Assistant to the Governor for Sports, Angel Verdeflor, delegated the task of handing the WVRAA banner to Romeo Sison of the DepEd provincial Bureau of Physical Education Supervisor.
Verdeflor said the turnover ceremony will be headed by DepEd regional director Mildred Garay and regional PESS supervisor Juliet Braga.
Aklan won the bid to host next year’s WVRAA with the completion of its Sports Complex in Barangay Calangcang, Makato, Aklan, the venue of the 2010 WVRAA meet.
The competition was held in Bacolod City this year, with host Negros Occidental keeping the overall championship in both elementary and secondary division.
The Negrense athletes won the gold in elementary basketball, elementary girls’ badminton, elementary girls’ chess, elementary football, elementary softball, elementary boys’ and girls’ swimming, elementary boys’ and girls’ table tennis, elementary girl’s taekwondo, elementary boys and girl’s tennis, and elementary girl’s volleyball. In elementary division, Iloilo won the boys’ and girls’ athletics, boys’ badminton, boys’ baseball, sipa, boys’ taekwondo, and boys’ volleyball.
In the secondary division, Negros won the boys’ and girls’ badminton, boy’s baseball and basketball, boxing, boys’ chess, sepak takraw, girls’ softball, boys’ and girls’ swimming, boys’ and girls’ table tennis, boys’ and girls’ tennis and girls’ volleyball. Iloilo won the secondary boys’ and girls’ arnis, boys’ and girls’ athletics, girls’ basketball, boys’ football, girls’ taekwondo and boys’ volleyball.
Iloilo finished second overall, while Capiz placed third, Aklan at fourth place, Antique landed in fifth spot, and Guimaras was sixth overall.*NAB
