Paravets receive
stipend, PVO says

Paraveterinarians from 13 local government units and pastors trained as paravets have received their monthly stipend of P627, 500 recently.

Catheryn Narez, livestock coordinator, said yesterday that the amount covers monthly stipends of 442 paravets from November 2011 to April 2012.

Covered in the releases of paravet allowances are the towns of Ilog, Manapla, La Castellana, Calatrava, Pulupandan, San Enrique, Don Salvador Benedictor, Valladolid, and the cities of Kabankalan, Victorias, and Bago.

Narez said paravets were trained to assist veterinarians in the implementation of animal health extension services particularly in remote barangays and to help the Provincial Veterinary Office delivering livestock and poultry services.

They perform animal treatment, vaccination, artificial insemination, deworming, and monitoring, she also said.

Meanwhile, the PVO recently conducted performance evaluation test on existing paravets to determine their specialized fields and weak areas, while junior paravets were trained on the functions and roles of a paraveterinarian, Narez said.

She also said PVO is involving the youth in its programs to make them aware of the thrust of the province to improve the livestock and poultry production through basic animal health services. *LTG
