MRFs to be established in
20 brgys: Sagarbarria

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

All the 20 barangays of Dumaguete will be provided with Materials Recovery Facilities to ensure an efficient garbage disposal in the city, after a directive was issued to close the dumpsite in Brgy. Candau-ay.

Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria said funds will come from the P3 million allotted for the environment after the city was given the Seal of Good Housekeeping by the Department of Interior and Local Government.

He added that he had requested DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo for authority to use part of the P3 million to buy a multicab for each barangay, since, under the Local Government Support Fund, the money cannot be used for vehicle purchase.

Sagarbarria said the MRF has to be complemented with a garbage collector who will bring the residual wastes to the open dumpsite in Candau-ay.

He also said that if his request is denied, he will use local funds to acquire the multicabs on a staggered basis.*JG
