Teenager shoots man dead
due to misunderstanding

A misunderstanding is believed to have driven a teenager to shoot and kill a man at the bridge near the boundaries of Barangays 35 and Singcang-Airport in Bacolod City at about 9 p.m. Monday.

Station 1 commander, Chief Insp. Adonis Rosales, identified the victim as Rene Cuervo, 21, of Rodriguez-Baybay in Brgy. 35, Bacolod, who sustained a lone gunshot wound in his chest and was declared dead on arrival at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

Investigation conducted by Police Officer 1 Roy Pastro showed that Cuervo and his brother, Reymart, 18, were standing at the Cameroli Bridge, when the 16-year-old suspect, whose name is being withheld as he is a minor, and his companion, identified as “Alias Bantillan” of Brgy Banago, Bacolod, arrived.

Witnesses told the police that the suspects asked for something from the Cuervos but when they failed to answer, an argument ensued. He said the minor drew a pingun and shot the older Cuervo at close range. The other suspect also shot Reymart, but missed.

Although the two suspects escaped after the shooting, murder charges are being readied against them, Rosales said *APN
