More Negrense
pugs in PHL team

More Negrense boxers are expected to be taken in by the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines after their sterling performances in the 2012 POC-PSC Philippine National Games boxing competitions at the Ninoy Aquino Memorial Stadium in Manila.

Sagay City’s Aljhun Oro, who lost his final bout in a controversial scoring, is likely to be taken in by the training pool.

Oro lost his bout for the gold medal against Davao Del Norte’s Joey Canoy in a questionable scoring.

The other Negrense boxer is James Palicte of Bago City, who snatched the gold in the 60 kgs against Risty Apas of Davao Del Norte. Palicte showed his dominance over his opponents who also beat James Calago of Sipalay City who represented Negros Occidental.

Palicte was once a member of the training pool but was a victim of power-struggle within the coaching staff.

Women’s national coach Michelle Martinez, meanwhile, is eyeing to have Riza Pasuit included in her list, after seeing the potential of a champion from the native of Sitio Tap-ok, Barangay Enclaro in Binalbagan town.

Although Pasuit lost her fight for the first time while aiming for the gold against former training pool member Margie Waga of Misamis Oriental, Martinez watched her fight from the sideline and showed interest in taking Pasuit for the national team.*PNA
