Marañon welcomes
OurFood in Negros

BY CARLA GOMEZ

‘Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday welcomed the OURFood – Negros Project aimed at boosting the production and ensuring the quality of fruits and vegetables in Negros and providing markets to improve the livelihood of farmers.

The project is being implemented by the Association of Negros Producers with the help of Dr. Stephan Kunz, OURFood county representative.

This jives with the programs of the provincial government, the governor said.

OURFood is an acronym for Optimization and Upscaling of Roles in the Supply Chain of Food.

Dr. Stephun Khunz said that they have already identified potential farmers in Negros Occidental and in Negros Oriental to incorporate in a system with the end goal of providing them a better livelihood.

He noted that Negros Occidental has 700,000 of land that could be developed for high value crops.

The 3-year program is funded by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development and administered by the German Organization for Qualification and Training.

The program works with farmers and processors to produce standard food products that this time has market tie ups, Marivic Rio of ANP said.

Kunz said so far they already have markets in Metro Gaisano, resorts and restaurants in Cebu and retail shops in Negros Occidental and Oriental.

They also have a big event at the Mariot Hotel in Cebu next week where a show cooking will be held for organic and healthy food from Negros Occidental and Oriental.

Yesterday a forum on the OURFood – Negros Project was held at the Governor’s Office participated in by Negrense farmers, and personnel from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Negros Island Sustainable Agricultural and Rural Development Foundation, and ANP, among others.*CPG
