Baby girl, elderly
man found dead

BY ADRIAN NEMES III

The body of a baby girl, believed to have been thrown into the Lupit River, was discovered partially buried in mud at its bank in Brgy. 35, Bacolod City, at about 3 p.m. Monday.

Norelo Diocson, “alias Diutay”, 51, of Purok Malipayon, Brgy. 35 told the police that he was about to answer the call of nature behind his house when he saw the baby’s body.

Diocson said he at first thought that it was just a doll but when he looked closer, he was shocked to find that it was a dead baby, prompting him to immediately inform the police.

Station 1 commander, Chief Insp. Adonis Rosales, said the baby was newly born as her umbilical cord was still uncut.

Rosales said the baby was probably thrown somewhere else and her body was carried by the water current to the riverbank in Purok Malipayon.

He, however, also said that the baby may have been delivered prematurely or may have been dead when she was born.

Rosales ordered Police Officer 1 Roy Pastro to investigate the people living in areas near Purok Malipayon to get a lead on to who could be responsible for throwing the baby into the river.

Parricide charges will be filed against those responsible once they are identified especially if proven that the baby was still alive when she was thrown into the river.

The baby’s body has been buried at the Burgos Public Cemetery on Monday as it was already in an advanced state of decomposition and was emitting foul odor.

MAN FOUND,TOO

The body of a man was also fished out from a river in Brgy. Estefania, Bacolod City, at about 5 p.m. Monday.

Senior Insp. Dianne Grace Aquitania, Station 4 chief, identified the victim as Hilarion Segovia, 85, of Purok Pedring in Brgy. Estefania.

Investigation conducted by Police Officer 2 Raymond Bandojo showed that Segovia was last seen alive at about 3 p.m. Wednesday on his way to the river to wash his clothes.

Aquitania said she believes that Segovia did not die of drowning but may have suffered a cardiac arrest before falling to the water as his body was not bloated when it was retrieved.

She said Segovia’s remains will no longer be autopsied as his family believes there was no foul play in his death.*APN
