Cop denies failure
to act on slapping

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Police Senior Inspector Roberto Indiape, relieved police chief of Pandan town in Antique, yesterday debunked claims that they failed to act on the slapping incident at the police station, that involved a barangay chairman, and the complainant, who is a Muslim businessman.

Indiape dismissed the allegations Ali Abubakar as malicious, preposterous and fabricated, and said that barangay chairman Ronardo Cunanan, who was accused of slapping the complainant, did not threaten him with a gun.

The Police Regional Office 6 has ordered an investigation on allegations that Indiape and seven personnel assigned at the Pandan Police Station in Antique, allegedly for failure to act on the slapping incident that happened in front of them, at a police station.

Chief Supt.Cipriano Querol, regional police director, said he ordered the relief of Indiape and seven other policemen assigned at the Pandan Police Station in Antique, pending investigations to determine their administrative liability and culpability.

Indiape said the incident was between Abubakar and Cunanan, Brgy. Centro Norte chairman of Pandan, Antique, and he was acting in good faith as mediators to immediately resolve their conflict.

He said that they are willing to be investigated to prove and justify their innocence against the allegations hurled against them. “ Our family was deeply affected by the misinformation. We only pray that due process shall be served to us,” Indiape said.

Investigations by the Pandan Police Station showed that Abubakar, who was being ushered into the police station, was boisterously displaying several identification cards with the signature of Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, regional police director of Western, the Sultan of Panay, demanding to see Indiape, to immediately act on his complaint.

Indiape said he has referred the administrative complaint of Abubakar against Cunanan to the Office of the Municipal Local Government of Pandan, and the alleged slapping incident to the Lupong Tagapamayapa for appropriate action.* GPB
