Vice guv to NBI: Name
person linked to killing

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negros Occidental Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr. yesterday said the National Bureau of Investigation should name the member of his family it says may be linked to the killing of Judge Henry Arles so that the person can defend himself.

The vice governor said he believes the implication of his family in the Arles killing is politically motivated. His family has no reason at all to want to see the judge dead, he stressed.

Arles was shot by gunmen on a tricycle in Brgy. Manalad, Ilog, as he was driving home in the evening of April 24. moremoremore

Alvarez says: I’ll abide
by UNA decision

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negros Occidental Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr. said he will abide by the decision of the United Negros Alliance, and the last thing he would like to see is trouble within the party.

The UNA is inviting Ambassador Eduardo Cojuangco to its party caucus to be held in about two weeks, where it will announce its candidates for the May 2013 polls, Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said Tuesday.

Cojuangco is the founder of UNA and the Nationalist People’s Coalition.moremoremore

Mayor questions
P10M asphalt overlay

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday said he will officially ask the Department of Public Works and Highways to explain the asphalt overlay road project along Lacson Street, Bacolod City, because it is a waste of money since the road is not damaged.

Leonardia said he was surprised to see the asphalt overlay at Lacson Street Tuesday evening, “because, in the first place, the road has no need for repair considering the quality of the cement work on it.”

That is one of the smoothest rides in Bacolod, he said, adding that he considers Lacson Street one of the beauties of Bacolod because the roads are wide and clear and the impact of the white cement is better than that of the black asphalt that it does not need at all.moremoremore
