7 officers, 89 cops obese
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Seven high ranking officers and 69 policemen with the ranks of Police Officer 1 to Senior Police Officer 4 in Bacolod City, were listed as “obese” and are required to attend the twice-a-week weight loss management program at the city police headquarters.

City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, said these policemen, especially those who are high-ranking, should take the program seriously or they may be removed from the service.

Twenty-four of the overweight policemen are assigned at the BCPO headquarters and the rest in Police Stations 1 to 10.

De la Paz said their body mass is not proportion to their height, making them overweight. He said after the weight loss management program, the policemen will undergo physical fitness tests thrice, and if they fail their means removal from the service.

De la Paz said being overweight is unhealthy and hampers the effectiveness of policemen in performing their duties.

BCPO has already received guidelines on how to implement the weight loss management program from Police Regional Office-6 Director Chief Supt. Cepriano Querol.

PRO-6 record showed that at Camp Martin Delgado and in Iloilo City and Iloilo Province alone, there are about 150 “over sized” policemen.

Most of the policemen from BCPO, who requested that their names be withheld, said they favor the weight loss management program of the PNP as this will enable them to perform their duties effectively.*APN
