Small enterprises venturing in health products and services and information, communication, and technology can now avail of the innovation system support fund assistance of the Department of Science and Technology under its Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program, Allan Francis Dara-ug, DOST provincial director, said yesterday.
SETUP-DOST provides technical assistance to upgrade machines and equipment of manufacturing industries like furniture, metal and engineering, agriculture, handicrafts, aquatic and marine, ICT, and health products and services, Dara-ug said.
DOST Secretary Mario Montejo has added the ICT and health products and services in the priority sectors that will be assisted under the program because its booming industry has provided jobs and development in the country, Dara-ug said.
‘LGUs must start own
organic schemes’
A three-day workshop held recently at May’s Organic Garden, in Bacolod City where Armigenia Benedicto, provincial focal person on organic agriculture, said that Local Government Units have to start their local programs on organic agriculture and have to make proposals for approval and funding.
The training focused on the development of organic agriculture plan of LGUS, salient provisions of the provincial ordinance on organic agriculture and the National Organic Agriculture Program, Benedicto said.
She said the province is encouraging LGUs to start their agriculture plans to start the implementation of the Republic Act 10068 or the Organic Agriculture Act of 2010.
