GSIS offers scholarships

The Government Service Insurance System has offered scholarships to dependents of low-income for the government workers under its enhanced College Scholarship Program, a press release from GSIS said.

The deadline for filing of application is on June 30, GSIS regional manager Vilma Fuentes said.

Fuentes said that GSIS will accept scholarship nominees from members with a salary grade of 24 and below, who will be given priority in the granting of the scholarships.

The nominee must be a child of a member, a freshman accepted in the school identified by the GSIS pension fund, she also said.

GSIS has 200 slots granting scholars actual cost of tuition and miscellaneous fee not exceeding PHP20,000.00 with a monthly stipend of P2,000, adding that the scholar may opt to take a four-year course provided scholastic requirements shall be met, the press release said.

For Negros Occidental, the CSP scholars should be freshmen accepted at the University of St. La Salle and University of Negros Occidental Recoletos, it added.

Aside from the scholarship program, GSIS is granting its members a P4,000 educational assistance, payable in five years with 6 percent interest rate.

For more details about the GSIS scholarship and educational assistance programs, members may call 976-4970 or 976-4970 or visit the nearest GSIS office and website, www.gsis.ph, the press release added.*
