The Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 7 distributed yesterday P27 million in Emergency Shelter Assistance to 2,883 families in Negros Oriental, who were affected by tropical storm “Sendong” last December 17.

The distribution was held simultaneously at the Negros Oriental Convention Center in Dumaguete City, and in Tanjay City.

The ESA and the Core Shelter Assistance Project funds aimed to address the shelter needs of displaced and homeless families, after “Sendong” severely affected the 10 towns and cities in Negros Oriental, Aileen Lariba of DSWD 7 said.

NORSU to mark 8th Charter day

The Negros Oriental State University will celebrate its 8th Charter Day anniversary on June 25, to mark its conversion from the then Central Visayas Polytechnic College, to NORSU, through Republic Act 9299.

Activities for this year’s celebration include a thanksgiving mass, an all-university academic convocation, and lunch fellowship for faculty, staff, administration, and guests, Dr. Peter Dayot, NORSU vice president for Planning, Research, and International Linkages, said.

Dayot said an entertainment program, titled “NORSU 8th Charter Day Anniversary Celebration after Lunch Show”, will follow at the Bethel Guesthouse, on the theme, “Great Women in History, What You Don’t Know About Them.”
