Forum monitor illegal recruitment cases
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Anti-illegal recruitment authorities in Negros Oriental, in coordination with the Visayan Forum, are monitoring an illegal recruitment ring in the Visayas and Mindanao, after a foiled attempt to bring several recruits to work as domestic helpers in Malaysia.

Romualdo Señeris II of the Visayan Forum said one of the victims is a Negrense, who was rescued in Zamboanga earlier this year.

The 23 year-old victim, a high school graduated, said she arrived in Zamboanga where several other girls were waiting, and they were supposed to go to Malaysia using the back door with passports only.

The Visayan Forum said that while the case for illegal recruitment was in progress in Zamboanga, the victim's father was approached by a certain “Budoy” and offered P50,000 as payment for the withdrawal of the case.

A few days after the case was filed in court, the father was wounded in the arm when he was shot by a still unknown gunman.

In spite of the threats, the victim said she will pursue the case in court with the assistance of the Visayan Forum.*JG
