Bacolod Host Lions Club
holds tree-planting in DSB

The Bacolod City Host Lions Club planted about 100 seedlings in Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental, recently, in support of the environmental initiative of the Lions Clubs International, a press release from the organization said.

Club president Marxlen de la Cruz said the project aims to improve the environment and provides for a healthier and safer place to live, work and play in.

Joining him in the activity were Lions Raul Florete, Leah Garbanzos, Mario Garbanzos, Naomi Alcala, Nilo del Carmen, Jun Jalbuena, Mally Legaspi, Terry Develdoz and president-elect Nana Jalbuena, the press release also said.

Meanwhile, the rain did not stop some 1,800 walkers, runners and bikers from joining the first “Provincial Fun Walk, Run and Bike” activity of Negros Occidental in line with the 20 th Provincial Environment Week celebration recently.

From three take-off points, the participants converged at the Capitol for the awarding and “hataw” exercise that capped the activity.

The activity, participated in by as young as 4-year-old Jullian Tejilla, to 71-year-old Romeo Reyes, was organized by the Provincial Environment Management Office and the Bantay Bata 163 Foundation of ABS-CBN, the press release also said.

The 303rd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army received the biggest contingent award. PEMO and Bantay Bata were able to raise P36,440 from the P20 registration fee collected from the participants, the press release added.*

receive health cards

Four towns in the fifth district of the province received the Negros Occidental Comprehensive Health Program cards from Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Vice Gov. Genaro Alvarez Jr. Wednesday, a press release from the Capitol said.

Around 533 cards were given in Hinigaran, 563 in Moises Padilla, 614 in Isabela, and 564 in Binalbagan.

Marañon said NOCHP is fast-tracking the enrolment and distribution of cards in the fifth district to reach the targeted 180,000 indigent families in the province, the press release said.

Rep. Alejandro Mirasol (Neg. Occ., 5 th District) also prioritized the fund counter-parting of P8 million for the NOCHP program, it added.

As of Wednesday, 84,330 families have already been enrolled in NOCHP, and 11,262 patients have availed of the program since its implementation in September 2010.

Mayors Hermilo Aguilar, Hinigaran; Francisco Nazareno, Moises Padilla; Francis Malabor, Isabela; and Emmanuel Aranda, Binalbagan, are supporting the program and have thanked to the provincial government for it, the press release said.

The cardholders, were oriented on the mechanics for availing of the program, especially during hospital admissions. Enrolment is ongoing in the towns and cities of the province, the press release added.*
