Don't leave valuables in your cars.
The warning came from Bacolod City Police Office Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz yesterday after five car burglary incidents were reported in the city Thursday.
De la Paz said that the thieves are members of an organized criminal gang.
Burglars destroyed the windows at the driver seat side of a vehicle parked in front of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources at about 6 a.m., while another vehicle parked in front of the Redemptorist church was also looted at about 8 a.m., Station 2 chief, Senior Insp. Robert Dejucos, said.
Dejucos added that the car burglars took about P50,000 in cash and valuables from the two vehicles.
Several hours later, a vehicle parked in front of the Lupit Church and another at the Bacolod downtown area, were also burglarized, the police said.
However, no information was available as of press time as to the value of the items stolen because Station 1 commander, Chief Insp. Adonis Rosales, was not available when contacted by the DAILY STAR.
A woman also reported that her car parked at Hilado Street was burglarized and about P65,000 worth of valuables were stolen, Senior Insp. Dianne Grace Aquitania, Station 4 chief, said.
De la Paz said their intelligence reports showed that the suspects behind these burglaries in Bacolod use a van in their operation.
Investigation showed that, usually, the group assigns one of their members as a spotter of cars they want to burglarize and check if there are valuables left in them by the owners.
Once the spotters see that there are valuables inside the vehicle, the suspects' van will park beside it and they will smash the window to get the items, De la Paz said.
The suspects are “professional thieves” as they know how to steal the items without triggering the alarm system of the vehicle, De la Paz added.
He ordered the members of the Investigation and Intelligence branches of BCPO to identify and arrest these car burglars as soon as possible.*APN
