The new P140 million Sipalay City Hall is now fully operational after its soft opening three weeks ago, and the installation of its air conditioning unit is now ongoing, Mayor Oscar Montilla said.
Now occupying the new building are the Mayor's Office, Office of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, City Treasurer's Office and other key offices.
Montilla said the old City Hall will be occupied by national government offices, the Regional Trial Court and the City Health Office, but the Sipalay City Police Station will remain in its present site.
The construction of the government center is one of the major undertakings indicated in the Sipalay City Master Plan and Comprehensive Land Use Plan.
The construction of a 75-bed hospital, with a budget of at least P100 million, is also ongoing.
The hospital will be named the Merceditas Montilla District Hospital, after the family that donated the two-hectare lot for its site.
Montilla said they are now finalizing the memorandum of agreement between them and the municipality of Hinobaan, that will avail of the newly-opened sanitary land fill in Sipalay City.
Montilla said the sanitary landfill and eco-center, which costs less than similar facilities in other areas of Negros island, will accept segregated garbage for disposal from the neighboring towns of Hinobaan and Sipalay, for a fee.*GPB
