Body of
septuagenarian found

The decomposing body of an elderly woman was found at her house in Brgy. Alangilan, Bacolod City, at about 10:10 a.m. Saturday.

Station 5 chief, Senior Insp. Niel Exaltado, said the body of Solemny dela Cruz, 76, of Purok 16 in Brgy. Alangilan, was discovered when passersby smelled foul odor emanating from her house.

She was lying in bed and her body was already in an advanced state of decomposition when found, police records show.

Investigation showed that Dela Cruz was alone in the house because her son left and has not come home yet.

Members of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office Scene of the Crime Operatives, led by Chief Insp. Paul Jerome Fuentispina, found no forcible entry and no items were reported missing, Exaltado said.

He added that while investigators did not notice hematomas on the body, it will be autopsied to determine the cause of death.*APN

BCPO: 3 arrested for ‘jai alai’

A suspected jai alai operator and two bettors were apprehended by Station 9 policemen at about 9 a.m. Saturday in Brgy. Sum-ag, Bacolod City.

Station 9 commander, Chief Insp. Placido Gentoleo, identified those arrested as Antonio Tumba, 63, of Purok San Roque, Ruben Villasis, 47, of Crossing Punta Taytay in Brgy. Sum-ag, and Venancio Berdijo, 54, of Purok Villa Lourdes in Brgy. Pahanocoy.

Police Officer 2 Emman Anacleto and Police Officer 1 Jan Michael Jaena arrested Tumba while he was collecting jai alai bets from Villasis and Berdijo.

Six tipsters with the codename “Guitar”, a ball pen, tally sheets, and P34.50 in cash believed to be proceeds from the illegal gambling operations, were recovered from Tumba during his arrest, the police said.

Tumba, Villasis and Berdijo are now in the custody of Police Station 9 and illegal gambling charges will be filed against them.

Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, Bacolod City police director, said they will arrest not only the operators, but also the bettors of jai alai.

If there are no bettors, the operators will also stop their activities, he added.*APN
