Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday said Bacolod City is the first local government to avail of the 50/50 scheme of the Department of Education for the construction of a 3-storey elementary school building.
The Education and Training Center School IV will be constructed on the city’s 2-hectare property at the Reclamation Area under the scheme.
The building is in addition to the existing ETCS 1, 2 and 3 in Brgy. 16.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro and Leonardia signed a memorandum of agreement at the DepEd main office on February 9, 2012 for a 50/50 partnership on the 48-classroom building.
Under this partnership, the DepEd and Bacolod City will share 50/50 the cost of the construction.
Leonardia said DepEd promised to construct the other 24 classrooms, and they hope the school will be completed when classes open next year, he said.
The opening of bids for the construction of the 3-storey ETCS building is scheduled on July 3, 2012.
Wilkinson Construction and HJL Construction, represented by Joe Marie Asuero and Fe Antonio, respectively, were able to obtain bid documents during the pre-bid conference Thursday.
The approved budget for the contract, or ABC is about P24 million.*CGS back
