MANILA – The local bourse was generally up yesterday amid the continued concerns on global growth but the peso weakened against the US dollar.

The composite index rose by 47.13 points, or 0.92 percent, to 5,167.20 points from last Friday’s 5,120.07 points.

The broader all shares index increased by 25 points, or 0.74 points, to 3,401.60 points from the previous trading day’s 3,376.6 points.

Only the property index ended on the red Monday after contracting by 3.87 points, or 0.21 percent, to 1,888.51 points from 1,892.38 points last Friday.

Trading remains healthy with value reaching P5.63 billion after 2.58 billion shares changed hands.

Advancers remained on top at 87 against the 61 losers while 46 shares were unchanged.

Meanwhile, the peso shed 22 centavos after closing at 42.64 from last Friday’s 42.42 finish.

It opened at 42.50, the strongest for the day, and went down to 42.69 resulting an average of 42.61.

Volume of trade amounted to US$ 902.36 million, lower than the US$ 1.5 billion at the end of last week’s trading.*PNA
