Red Cross serves 56
during San Juan fete

The Philippine Red Cross Negros Occidental-Bacolod City served 56 patients during the celebration of the Feast of San Juan Sunday, its press release said.

Red Cross administrator, Raul Garganera, said 30 of its staff, a rescue boat, ambulance, and beach patrol teams, and first aid stations were deployed at Barangay Punta Taytay in Bacolod City for water rescue and other emergencies.

Three victims of a vehicular accident, one with difficulty in breathing, and another with lacerated wounds were transported by Red Cross ambulance to the hospital, and two persons who nearly drowned were saved by the rescue boat team, the press release also said.

Garganera said most of the cases served had suffered injuries caused by jellyfish sting, minor wounds, hypertension, and acute alcoholic intoxication, the press release added.*

CPA oathtaking today

The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants Negros Occidental Chapter will hold the oathtaking of the new CPAs at 5:30 p.m. today at the Planta Hotel in Bacolod City, a press release from the group said.

Judge Napoleon Diamante of the Municipal Trial Court Branch 3 will be the inducting officer, while Jerry Bantilan, senior regional director of PICPA Western Visayas, will induct the new CPAs to the organization.

Ming Yuan College
trimester classes up

The Catholic Ming Yuan College-Tech, the education arm of the Monks of Lux Mundi, in Blumentritt, Murcia, Negros Occidental, has announced the start of its trimester classes on July 30, its press release said.

Course offerings for year 2012-2013 are a two-year business entrepreneurship, and the eco-farm-tourism management, a certified program of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

The monks of Lux Mundi have been working closely with Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr. to create avenues for international cooperation in agriculture, trade, investments, and building lasting friendship with international and local organizations since 2009, the press release said.

The monastery and demo farm was recently granted a franchise to operate by the Management Association of the Philippines and the Meralco MFI Foundation. It aims to improve the lives of small farmers by promoting innovative educational programs, especially for children; and to help set up livelihood opportunities for agribusiness students, alumni, parents and the communities, the press release also said.
